One project, one crew: from removal to the last seam
A backsplash is the last step of a sequence, and the sequence is where projects usually fall apart: removal, countertop installation, plumbing, backsplash, each waiting on the one before it. We run all four as one coordinated project. The crew that templates your countertop knows the backsplash is coming, the plumbing reconnection is scheduled around it, and the wall is measured while the old top is coming off. One schedule, one point of accountability, one final walkthrough when the last seam is done.
That sequencing is also the answer to a question we hear weekly: the countertop goes in first, the backsplash follows it, and the joint between them is planned rather than improvised.

Slab backsplash: quartz and porcelain, cut to your wall
A slab backsplash is fabricated like a countertop: templated to your wall, cut from full slabs, installed as large panels with minimal joints. It is priced per square foot, typically in line with your countertop rate, and the full quartz numbers live in our guide to quartz countertops cost in Toronto. Three things move a slab backsplash quote, and all three are about work, not markup.
Vein match and vein flow. These are the two words you will hear in our shop when the slab has a pattern. Vein match is the tighter class of work: the pattern lines up across every joint, splash to splash, and on the showpiece version the veins turn the corner from the countertop and continue up the wall. Vein flow is the looser class: veins run in one direction at one angle across all the pieces, reading as one stone without being forced to meet at every seam. Both classes take extra layout time, because every piece is positioned on the slab's pattern before anything is cut, and the installation goes together like a puzzle with only one right order. A true match often takes an additional slab, sometimes two, to find the stretch of pattern that makes the turn.
Full height without upper cabinets. On walls with no uppers, the slab runs from the countertop to the ceiling. That is a bigger format to fabricate, transport and set, and it takes a larger installation crew to lift a panel that size into place cleanly.
Around a window, up to the ceiling. The most demanding layout in the catalogue: narrow strips flanking the window, a header piece above it, and joints where all of them meet. Add veins and every joint becomes a pattern decision on top of a fitting decision. This layout is quoted per project.
The materials are the two you already know from countertops: quartz, with the full range on quartz slabs in Toronto, and large-format porcelain with marble-look faces, covered on porcelain slab colours. Porcelain's oversized slabs are built for exactly this: a wall in one or two pieces.

Tile backsplash: the installation service
Tile is the other half of the backsplash world, and we install it too: same crew standards, same scheduling inside your countertop project.
Tile backsplash installation runs $30 to $52 per square foot in labour, with an $800 project minimum. The minimum is not a fee on top: it is the floor your labour counts toward, so smaller backsplashes land at $800 and larger ones are priced by the foot. Tile, grout and materials are quoted separately once you choose them.
Where a tile quote lands within that range comes down to four things.
Layout: to the underside of the upper cabinets, to the ceiling, or around windows, each step up adding cuts and edge work.
Pattern: subway, vertical stack, offset, herringbone and mosaic are different jobs, and the last two carry the most cuts per square foot.
Tile material: large format tile, natural stone, glass and porcelain each cut and set differently.
Grout: the quiet variable. A contrast grout, black lines on white tile, is premium work, because every joint becomes an individual task of perfect spacing with nowhere for a lazy line to hide.

How we quote backsplashes
A backsplash is quoted separately from the countertop, and every countertop quote we send says so in plain text, with the add-on services listed next to it. You will never discover on installation day that the wall was not in the number. The one exception to separate quoting is the 4 inch strip on a bathroom vanity top, which is a line inside the vanity quote itself.
